It was suggested by Twitter users that I make a post about why we continue to celebrate series into adulthood. I, of course, thought that this was a spectacular idea and was happy to make this post.
I think that series have a big impact on readers. They allow more time to get to know the characters in depth and are very good for fast readers who might want a series so they can spend more time reading them.
I love the opportunities series give you to feel more and more like you know the characters. If a novel is written well, it is only natural for readers to want more.
A lot of people who loved a series as children tend to still love them as adults, even if they don't show it in the same way children do. I know, for example, that I will always love J. K Rowling's Harry Potter series, no matter how old I get.
There are many reasons that I think this may be. Firstly, I think that the closeness a series provides means that the characters will always stay in a reader's heart.
Most of all, though, I think that a series represents a period in a reader's life. When talking about books, I might still call a chunk of my childhood 'the time when I was reading Harry Potter.'
I think it's important that we continue to celebrate series into adulthood because it shows that while we might be mature, our childhood will never leave us. All novels, whether series or not, shape us in a way and I think that we should be thankful for that.
