Today, I saw I had a blog post due and really didn't know what to write about. But, after some thinking, I decided to write a post about change.
I thought of this because just yesterday I went through a major style change; I took a massive plunge and I was kind of scared because I couldn't really go back on it. It turned out so much better than I imagined, though, and I was really pleased I did it.
I discovered a lot of things while thinking about this subject. I never fully realised how much the general themes in YA are about change in some way.
Change in YA can come in many different forms. For example, there is the change in a person as they discover new things about themselves. YA mainly focuses on this kind of change; the kind that comes with self-discovery.
I think that change is what makes the novel. After all, if nothing changed, we wouldn't have a novel, would we? If Katniss and Prim had never went to the reaping, there would be no Hunger Games. If Tris had not choosen her faction, and nothing changed, we would have no Divergent.
I find something strange about this. It is the same change that people find so entertaining but that people are so hostile towards when they are faced with it. I was scared yesterday to make the big change. I knew that the change was for the better, but I was scared of the change and didn't feel like I wanted it until I saw the results.
I am sorry if you didn't enjoy this post, didn't find it useful or entertaining. I suppose it wasn't meant to be, but this is what I wanted to do. I'm sorry if you don't like it.

This is a great observation, TBR! Change is a constant in life, and I think you are perfectly on the money about how ambivalent we humans are about it. No matter how we feel about different changes (scared, excited, sad, happy), we are constantly adjusting to change. I agree it's essential to the YA genre. It may go beyond that. :-)
