DISCUSSION: Why do bloggers blog?
Well, hello! Welcome back to another discussions post. Today we're going to discuss exactly why bloggers blog.
One popular opinion, particularly with book, fashion or gaming bloggers is that they blog to sell products. I'd like to put that opinion to rest. While we will feel great if our blog causes someone to buy a book because we're supporting an industry we care enough to blog about, this isn't why most people blog. A lot of blogs are completely unaffiliated (like this one) and so make no monetary gain from the sales of products they endorse. This blog is in a very loose and unofficial partnership with BookFish Books LLC, but the gain I get from reviewing in this partnership is that I get provided with books from BookFish to review every now and then. Therefore, I get no gain from the sale of books.
Another opinion is that we blog for fame. I can assure you, at least, that I don't blog for fame. I encourage activity here, because my ambition is to make this blog somewhere people can have a friendly discussion about books. Not to make that pageview counter go up. I don't care about that at all. This blog is not, and will probably never be, famous or well-known. If it never gets famous, but makes people happy, that would be fine by me.
Many of us don't blog for fame, nor money. We blog for other reasons.
We blog to network with like-minded people. We blog to voice our opinions. We blog to teach others. We blog to gain confidence. But most of all, we blog because we love what we blog about.
I blog because I love books. That's it. Nothing more. I love books enough to spend hours of time reading and then telling random people on the internet what I thought of them even though they probably don't even care. Now that's dedication.
Bye, have a good weekend.
Happy readin'
