DISCUSSION: Why are Events Like YALC Important?

I'm thinking about changing the discussions banner. What do you think? Let me know.

Anyway, onto the post. Hi there! Back for another discussions post, I see. Nice to see you. Sit down. Have some sweets- whatever applies to you (Sidenote; Tell me about the sweets where you live.)

So what with YALC being on this weekend, I decided to make a little post about why it's important for the book world that we have events like this. YALC is such a great thing, and I'm truly sad that I couldn't make it this year. Hopefully I'll get another opportunity to go to such a brilliant event.

I truly think events like these are important. They give readers the rare opportunity to meet hundreds of others in a friendly environment. They get to meet their favourite authors, discover new authors and novels, and go to truly amazing talks from prominent figures in the book world.

Below I've included a playlist of videos of last year's YALC - full credit to +Booktrust, who posted the videos.

This kind of event gives the reading community an opportunity to celebrate Young Adult literature and to go to an event as a group.

I think there should be more events like this- the kind that gives readers a sense of community and solidarity, as well as listening to inspirational talks by their favourite authors and going to book signings. I really think it is a brilliant event, and I hope to go if I get another opportunity.
