DISCLAIMER: THIS IS SIMPLY MEANT TO OFFER MY OPINION AND DISCUSS THINGS WITH YOU. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO GENERALISE OR CRITICISE SCHOOLS. THANK YOU.
Today I'd like to talk about a subject that I am actually very passionate about. Books and school.
I know it sounds stupid but there's actually quite a lot I'd like to say on this subject.
For starters, I feel like schools (again, not generalising) don't let students read enough. Both inside and outside of school.
In my school, we get a reading session about once a week. To me, that's actually not bad. I know schools in my area and my country in which the schools don't really set aside time for reading at all and students who want to read aren't afforded much opportunity.
Free time at school is filled with extra work. In my school, you aren't allowed to just go inside and read at breaktimes. I think that is also the case in many schools, but I don't think it should be.
I think that schools should be giving pupils as many chances to read as possible. Reading has many positive effects on the brain, and it is important for learning and memory that students should read and develop their minds as much as possible.
Outside of school? Well, schools give so much homework that it takes up a student's whole night and even perhaps a lot of their weekend. They have no time to read or do anything else, really, because they have so much homework and revision and many other things.
I myself find it very difficult to maintain my good grades while reading for the blog and organising blog posts.
I think that both in and out of school, schools should make sure that pupils get to read as much as possible.
What are your thoughts? Let me know!
