Interview with Author of True Colours, Krysten Hager!

I'd just like to thank Krysten for the wonderful book and letting me review it! I hope you guys like the interview!

1) What was your inspiration for the characters?
I wanted to create a character who showed her own insecurities and feeling about friends, her looks, talking to boys, school, etc. to show that everyone has their insecure moments and that no one is alone in that.

2) Did this involve a lot of research?
No, I did some modelling at Landry's age so I could take from my own experiences.

3) Landry's mother had a very different opinion of modelling than Landry- what is your personal stance on teen modelling?
I did some modelling at Landry's age and it did give me a skewed view on appearance and I show that when Landry feels she has an "image to maintain" at school now that people know she's modelling. I felt I needed to be realistic in showing that, but then I have her mother there adding her voice to it saying looks are not everything and Landry reading about the model, Talisa Milan's, career goals that show Talisa isn't just a pretty face.

4) How long did it take for you to write this book?
The book went through a major re-write, but it's hard to say since I put it aside for a few years when I moved overseas.

5) Did you have any favourites among Landry's friends?
I love Ashanti, Peyton, and Thalia. I wished I had friends like those at Landry's age. I have a lot of readers telling me they had a "Devon" or a "Ericka" in their lives. I always tell them, "Me, too!"
