Advent Calendar, Day 1!
Hi everyone, sorry I'm late on this one; I had something happening last night. However, I am going to kick this advent calendar thing off with a bang! Behind the first door is a review of Endgame: the Calling, by James Frey and Nils Johnson-Shelton.
Review
This book is absolutely fantastic to tuck up with during the holidays; with a grand total of 461 pages excluding glossaries, this book will keep you busy through long winters nights.
The naturally curious reader will get excited as soon as they see the line on the jacket of the book, "Endgame is coming." I will say that this definitely piqued my curiosity and I was soon enveloped in the shaken world created by Frey and Johnson-Shelton. Readers minds will race, trying to analyse the book and solve the puzzles which emerge throughout the story, making predictions. I think this is one of those books which are perfect for reading with friends, as you can make predictions, betting on who you want to win Endgame.
This first instalment, the Calling, is about twelve children aged 13-20 who are descended from unbroken lines, traceable all the way back from when the Sky People came to Earth and granted people knowledge in exchange for gold. These are called Players. With the signal of meteorites falling, these young adults must fight for three keys. Keys which will help them win the game and save their line of humanity. Those who fail, destroy their line. All of humanity except those saved by the victor will die.
Solve the puzzle. Play the Game. Endgame is real. Endgame is coming.
