Today I am reviewing an incredible novel which I couldn't put down. It was the winner of last year's Cilip Carnegie medal, and when you begin to read it you can see why.
It is a surreal novel about a teenage boy who is captured and placed into a bunker. The reader is taken on a spectacular and harrowing journey as more people appear in the bunker and they try to solve the mystery of why the Man Upstairs has captured them and how they might escape. Full of plot twists and emotional, poignant moments, I have never read a novel like this one. What I found incredible is the way the writer captures their suffering and madness. I have not been able to put the book down since the first page, and I hope if you read it you find the same effect.
Brooks is a fantastic author and I look forward to reading more of his work
