Movies Inspired by Books

What with the European premiere for Insurgent having happened this week, I became inspired to write about what I think about movies inspired by books.

Why We Broke Up, a book I have reviewed here on the blog, is just one of the books I have reviewed which either already has or will be made into a movie.

A lot of people believe that these movies don't do the books justice, and so rarely go to see one of these movies. However, I believe that it is completely reasonable that the director might cut an important line or even a scene or two from the book. If the director believes it betters the interpretation of the book, then who are we to argue?

I don't think that we should be so quick to dismiss movies like this. After all, it isn't right to put down a  movie just because it is not exactly the same as the novel. I am certain differences can be forgiven.

I understand that some movies are outrageously different from the novel, but even so it makes the movie a unique interpretation of the novel that perhaps shows imagination.

If the movies were exactly the same as the novels, why would anyone want to read the books?

However, I'm not here to judge people's criticisms, but to express my own opinion. So, I think that no matter how different a movie is from the novel it is based on, we should find positives in the movie and trust that the director thought that this was the best way to interpret the novel.
