NOTE: These statistics are as of November 2014 and as such may not be accurate currently. These statistics were found on this link.
One of the first things I found was that 53% of 9-year-olds are daily readers, compared to 17% of 17-year-olds.
I find this quite surprising, and honestly a little disappointing. I thought that it would be much higher than 17%. This stat also shows that in eight years, a person's reading rate appears to drop by around 36%. That's over a third!
Long story short, I believe that it's imperative to encourage teenagers to read. Today's society has surrounded teenagers with distractions, and sometimes negative views on reading. It's so important to encourage reading, and that's one of the reasons I made this blog. I wanted to play my part to motivate teenagers to read and to provide a positive view on reading. I think it's really important for teens to hear that reading is good, and to hear it from another teen, not an adult.
