Advent Calendar Day 4!

Hi everyone, I am going to be doing an interview today with the author of Faery Marked, Mary Waibel (Hint hint, on day 17 you may hear more about this book). Here's the blurb of the book to give you a bit more of an idea what this is about.

'When Callie Rycroft wakes to find purple flames flickering on the ceiling, she believes she’s still dreaming. But soon she’s forced to accept that she has magic―a special magic that grants her entrance into the Faery Realm.

For centuries humans have been banned from Faery, but dangerous times call for dangerous measures. Declared Champion by the Faery Queen, Callie is assigned a Guardian, and tasked with finding the Cordial―a magical elixir needed to keep the portal to the Faery realm a secret from humans.

The upside? Reece Michaels, the boy she's been crushing on for years, is her Guardian. Callie hopes that, by spending time with Reece, he'll start to see her as more than just his best friend's sister.

The downside? She's in a race not only against time, but against another Champion, and a rogue Guardian―a Guardian who stands to threaten her developing relationship with Reece.

Magic, mistaken identities, and hidden agendas are the least of Callie's worries when she learns that the Cordial requires a sacrifice. Will Callie be willing to risk everything―even Reece―to complete her task as Champion? Or will she let the portal open, and doom both realms?'

So without further ado, here is my interview with the lovely Mary Waibel

1) This is different from your usual writing style; what drove you to deviate from your usual style?

I love reading Jennifer Armentrout’s books, and wanted to give first person POV writing a try after reading her. I’d been playing around with a ‘coming into her powers’ sorceress idea, and somehow that morphed into into Faery Marked.

2) Did your idea come quickly of slowly?

This was actually the fastest novel I ever drafted. Of course, then I made revisions, and did edits, and rewrote the entire book in July as I didn’t like what it looked like, and now here it is, out there for the world to read.

3) Did you originally think the idea would come to fruition?

Yes. I knew I’d have a finished product with this one, but I didn’t expect the drastic changes that came in July. Originally this story was in first person POV with Callie with a few sections in 3rd person POV from Queen Nissa. During line edits in July, the entire story stopped working for me, and I asked for time to make an overhaul of the MS before releasing. Tammy, at BookFish Books, was wonderful and gave me time to make the changes needed. In the end, I cut the 3rd person POV sections. But don’t worry. I’m thinking of tweaking them and repurposing them into another story down the road.

4) Are you a believer of the supernatural? If so, to what extent?

While I love to read paranormal romance, and watch paranormal shows and movies, I’m a bit more on the logical side of things. Still, there’s always room for what if, right?

5) What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Keep writing, even if you don’t think it’s right. If you don’t put it on the page, you can’t edit it into what you want. And read, good books and bad. Obviously you want to emulate the good books, but you want to learn why the bad ones are bad and how to avoid those mistakes in your own writing.

6) What can we expect from you as an author in the future?

I hope to be starting on Faery Cursed, the sequel to Faery Marked soon. In the meantime, I’m polishing up a romantic comedy and drafting another book for the Princess of Valendria series.

7) Do you have any exclusive info just for us here at the blog?

(While this isn’t exclusive, it’s important info!)

I’m running a special giveaway with Faery Marked.  Send me a picture of you holding your e-reader/tablet with the cover of Faery Marked showing, or proof of purchase from 12/16-12/22, and you’ll be entered to win a signed copy of Faery Marked,  an 8x10 of the cover (signed by author and cover artist), bookmarks, wing tattoos, and special trading cards. An extra entry can be earned by tweeting/FB about the book, and two extra entries can be earned by leaving an honest review at the site of your choosing (Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Nobles.) For all the details, please see the details at marywaibel.blogspot.com or at BookFishBooks.com (look for the special offers tab)

8) Is this book likely to become a series?

Yes. I am planning on it being a trilogy.
